Kami Rita Sherpa Breaks His Own Record with 32nd Everest Summit

“The Everest Man,” Kami Rita Sherpa, has once again made history. The legendary climber successfully summited Mount Everest for the 32nd time this morning, extending his own world record for the highest number of successful ascents of the world’s tallest mountain.

According to Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, Kami Rita launched his summit push from the South Col last night and reached the summit at approximately 10:12 AM local time.

“This season, Kami Rita climbed Everest without any foreign client to guide,” Tashi Lakpa stated.

Born on January 17, 1970, in Solukhumbu, Nepal, Kami Rita currently works as a senior climbing guide in Nepal. He has held the record for the most Everest ascents since May 2018.

Originally from Thame village in the Everest region, Kami Rita has dedicated his life to mountaineering and has become synonymous with Everest climbing achievements.

Tashi Lakpa further added that Kami Rita summited Everest twice in both 2023 and 2024. After returning to base camp this season, he will decide whether to attempt a 33rd ascent.

Kami Rita’s mountaineering career began in 1992 when he joined an Everest expedition as support staff. Since then, he has participated in numerous high-altitude expeditions and achieved remarkable success on some of the world’s highest peaks.

Between 1994 and 2026, according to Tashi Lakpa, Kami Rita has climbed Everest 32 times, K2 and Lhotse once each, Manaslu three times, and Cho Oyu eight times.

“Kami Rita and the other summiteers are now descending to the lower camps,” said Gyanendra Shrestha, the liaison officer at Everest Base Camp.
