More than 40 artists and writers from all seven provinces of Nepal and 11 different countries have participated in a joint trekking journey along the famous Mundum Trail in Eastern Nepal.

Project Director and cultural expert Dr. Bhakta Rai shared that the first phase of the global project aimed at promoting the Mundum Trail has been successfully completed.

According to Dr. Rai, artists and writers from across Nepal and various countries around the world were brought together for a hiking experience on the trail, along with an international creators’ conference organized in connection with the event.

“We organized a joint hike for artists and writers from all seven provinces of Nepal and 11 countries, along with an international creators’ conference to promote the Mundum Trail,” he said.

Dr. Rai expressed confidence that this trekking expedition would help introduce the Mundum Trail to the international community and strengthen its recognition as an important cultural and tourism destination.

International participants also expressed their खुशी and appreciation for the opportunity to visit the Mundum Trail while taking part in the conference.

During the conference, a working paper was presented covering important topics such as the origin of the name “Mundum Trail,” the meaning of Mundum, the first ethnic communities to settle in the area, the ethnic groups currently living there, as well as the region’s climate, geography, environment, and the rich diversity of flora and fauna found along the trail.

As part of this global project, both Nepali and international participants will continue to be taken on direct visits to the Mundum Trail and provided with detailed information through various promotional activities. They will also be encouraged to compose songs inspired by the trail.

The project aims to have these songs created by both domestic and international artists and later recorded by singers from Nepal and abroad.

Participants from outside Nepal included creators such as Dr. Surendra Chamling, Prashant Thulung, and Durga Rai from Darjeeling, India; Mohan Dungmali from Sikkim; Dhanraj Rai and Dilkumar Rai from Bhutan; Lin Zhong and Rong Zhang from China; Stephen Fodham from Australia; Zahid and Erkan Tetik from Turkey; along with writers and artists from Russia, Singapore, the Philippines, Japan, Korea, and several other countries.

Chairman of Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality, Saroj Basnet, stated that such international cultural and tourism programs will contribute not only to the development of Eastern Nepal but also to the overall development of the nation.

The Mundum Trail is increasingly gaining recognition as one of Nepal’s unique cultural trekking destinations, offering visitors a blend of natural beauty, indigenous heritage, and authentic local experiences.
