The Panch Pokhari Trek is one of the most beautiful and spiritually significant trekking routes in Nepal, offering a perfect combination of natural beauty, religious importance, and authentic cultural experiences. Located in the Sindhupalchok district northeast of Kathmandu, Panch Pokhari means “Five Sacred Lakes” and is considered one of the holiest pilgrimage destinations for both Hindus and Buddhists.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva created these sacred lakes by striking the mountain with his holy Trishul (trident) to obtain water and cool his throat after swallowing poison. Every year during Janai Purnima and Gangadashahara festivals, thousands of pilgrims from Nepal and India visit Panch Pokhari for spiritual purification and blessings.
This 14-days Panch Pokhari trek offers stunning Himalayan panoramas of Dorje Lakpa (6,966m), Madiya Peak (6,799m), Phurbi Chhyachu (6,658m), Jugal Himal Range, and views extending toward the Langtang and Rolwaling regions. The trail passes through beautiful rhododendron forests, bamboo groves, alpine meadows, and remote Tamang and Sherpa settlements, providing a rich cultural and natural experience.
Trekkers also pass through Langtang National Park, home to diverse wildlife such as red pandas, Himalayan black bears, Himalayan tahr, rhesus monkeys, and the colorful Danphe (Himalayan Monal), Nepal’s national bird. The region is rich in biodiversity and offers peaceful trails far from the crowds of Everest and Annapurna.
The Panch Pokhari Trek is ideal for trekkers seeking a less crowded route, spiritual significance, and incredible Himalayan landscapes. A moderate level of fitness is required due to higher altitude trekking, and the Panch Pokhari trek can be enjoyed throughout most of the year.
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be warmly welcomed by the Adventure Trail Nepal team and transferred to your hotel. After check-in, there will be a short briefing about your upcoming Panch Pokhari Trek and final preparation for the journey.
