A Remote Fishing and Rafting Adventure in Western Nepal
Escape into one of Nepal’s remote and least-visited wilderness regions on a 7-day Seti Karnali fishing in Nepal with Adventure Trail Nepal.
This adventure takes you deep into the western hills of Nepal, where clear mountain rivers flow through forested valleys, remote settlements and rugged landscapes. Combining sport fishing, white-water rafting, riverside camping and 4WD adventure, the journey is designed for travelers who want to experience Nepal far beyond the usual trekking routes.
The rivers of western Nepal are known for species such as Golden Mahseer, Snow Trout and Goonch Catfish. Along the journey, you will have opportunities to fish from riverbanks, pools and suitable stretches of the river while travelling through an increasingly wild landscape.
The expedition is about more than fishing. You will camp beside the river, travel through remote countryside, navigate sections of white water, enjoy locally prepared meals and spend evenings around the campfire when conditions permit. You may also encounter birds, otters and other wildlife along the river corridor.
With private 4WD transportation, experienced fishing and rafting guides, camping equipment and full-board meals, this is an ideal adventure for anglers and outdoor travelers looking for a genuine off-the-beaten-path experience in Nepal.
The Seti Karnali Fishing Experience
The Seti Karnali expedition is designed for travelers who enjoy combining fishing with exploration and outdoor adventure.
Rather than staying in one fishing location, you will travel along different sections of the river, looking for suitable fishing spots and experiencing changing landscapes along the way. Some sections offer deeper pools and slower water that are suitable for fishing, while other sections provide opportunities for rafting through narrow valleys and more energetic stretches of river.
Each day has its own character. Mornings generally begin beside the river, followed by a combination of fishing, river travel, walking and 4WD transfers depending on the day’s route.
At night, the wilderness becomes part of the experience. You will stay in riverside camps or basic local accommodation depending on the route and conditions. After dinner, you can relax around the campfire, listen to local stories and enjoy the quiet surroundings.
Fishing is a natural activity, and catches cannot be guaranteed. River conditions, water levels, weather, fishing conditions and seasonal factors all influence the experience.
Your adventure begins with a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Dhangadhi, in western Nepal.
After arriving in Dhangadhi, meet your expedition team and begin the journey by private 4WD jeep toward Dipayal. The drive takes several hours and gradually takes you away from the busy Terai plains toward the hills of western Nepal.
Along the way, you will see rural settlements, agricultural landscapes and changing terrain as the road climbs toward the western hills.
After reaching Dipayal, the team will conduct a short expedition briefing. This is a good opportunity to check fishing equipment, discuss river safety and review the plan for the following days.
Depending on the road conditions and arrival time, you will stay in a basic local lodge or at a riverside camp.
Overnight: Lodge or riverside camp
Meals: Lunch and Dinner
After breakfast, the expedition moves toward the Seti Karnali river corridor and the fishing adventure begins.
The day combines 4WD travel, short walks and fishing along suitable sections of the river. Your fishing guides will help identify promising pools, bends and quieter sections where target species may be found.
The main species you may encounter include Golden Mahseer, Snow Trout and Goonch Catfish.
The river environment is an important part of the experience. Forested slopes, rocky riverbanks and small settlements create a dramatic backdrop as you move deeper into the wilderness.
By afternoon, continue toward Naridang Village, where the team prepares the riverside camp.
Spend the evening beside the river, relaxing after your first full day of fishing.
Overnight: Riverside camp near Naridang
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Wake up to the sound of the river and enjoy breakfast at camp before continuing downstream.
Today’s route takes you toward Maharudra, including the area around the Seti and Budhiganga river confluence.
The deeper pools and changing river structure provide opportunities for fishing, while sections of the route can also be experienced by rafting.
Your guides will select fishing locations according to water levels and conditions. You may spend part of the day casting from the riverbank or working along different pools before continuing to the next section of the expedition.
The confluence area provides a particularly scenic place to establish camp.
After dinner, enjoy a quiet evening beside the river.
Overnight: Riverside camp near Maharudra
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Today takes you farther into the remote Seti Karnali landscape.
After breakfast, continue fishing and rafting through sections of the river that may provide opportunities for Golden Mahseer and other native fish species.
The river corridor becomes increasingly isolated, with forested hills rising from the water and fewer signs of modern development.
Fishing takes place whenever suitable conditions and locations are available. Between fishing sessions, you may travel by raft or 4WD and walk along sections of the riverbank.
As the day progresses, the expedition reaches the Seti Karnali confluence area near Benighat, where the team establishes a remote riverside camp.
The evening provides an opportunity to relax, share stories with the expedition team and enjoy the wilderness atmosphere.
Overnight: Remote riverside camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Continue your journey through another scenic section of the Seti Karnali river system.
Today combines fishing and river travel, with opportunities to explore deeper bends, pools and quieter stretches where conditions are suitable for angling.
The exact fishing locations are selected by the guides according to river conditions and seasonal factors.
After a full day outdoors, arrive at Tamcha, where the river team prepares camp near the river.
This evening includes a special local chicken barbecue dinner, prepared by the expedition team. Enjoy the meal beside the river and, weather permitting, spend some time around the campfire.
Overnight: Tamcha riverside camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Today is the final full fishing and rafting day of the expedition.
After breakfast, continue along the river toward Ghatgaun, stopping at suitable fishing locations along the way.
The day’s route offers a final opportunity to enjoy the river environment, observe the surrounding landscape and look for wildlife along the banks.
Depending on conditions, you may encounter river birds, otters and other wildlife. Wildlife sightings are naturally unpredictable, but the remote environment provides an excellent opportunity to observe Nepal’s western river ecosystem.
Continue toward the area around the Bheri and Karnali river confluence, where the final riverside camp is prepared.
After dinner, enjoy your last evening in the wilderness and reflect on the fishing and rafting adventure.
Overnight: Riverside camp near Ghatgaun
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Wake early for one final opportunity to enjoy the river environment. Depending on the morning conditions and departure schedule, there may be time for a short final fishing session or riverside exploration.
After breakfast, leave the river corridor by private 4WD and continue toward Chisapani and Nepalgunj.
The drive provides a final look at the changing landscapes of western Nepal before reaching the Terai.
From Nepalgunj, take an evening domestic flight back to Kathmandu.
Your Seti Karnali fishing in Nepal ends upon arrival in Kathmandu.
