Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu.

After checking in and taking some time to relax, enjoy a traditional Nepali welcome dinner in the evening accompanied by a cultural performance. This provides your first introduction to Nepal’s rich cultural traditions, music, dance, and cuisine.

Overnight: Kathmandu

After breakfast, begin your craft journey with a visit to Patan, one of the historic cities of the Kathmandu Valley and a renowned center of Newari art and craftsmanship.

Explore Patan Durbar Square, famous for its ancient temples, courtyards, stone sculptures, and intricately carved wooden architecture. Continue to the Patan Museum, where you can learn more about Nepal’s artistic and religious heritage.

Later, visit a traditional woodcarving workshop and meet skilled local artisans. Learn about the techniques used to create the beautifully detailed wooden doors, windows, sculptures, and architectural elements found throughout the Kathmandu Valley.

You will have an opportunity to participate in a hands-on woodcarving session, under the guidance of an experienced artisan.

In the afternoon, visit a traditional blacksmith’s workshop in Patan to discover the centuries-old craft of Khukuri making. Observe how raw steel is heated, shaped, hammered, sharpened, and polished to create the famous Gurkha Khukuri knife.

Where possible, you may also try basic hammering or polishing under the supervision of the artisan.

Learn about the historical and cultural significance of the Khukuri and its important place in Nepalese and Gurkha heritage.

Overnight: Kathmandu

After breakfast, drive to the historic Newar settlements of Bungamati and Khokana, located in the southern part of the Kathmandu Valley.

Bungamati is a traditional settlement known for its distinctive Newari architecture, wooden houses, temples, courtyards, and long-standing artistic traditions.

Explore the village and discover the region’s heritage of stone carving and masonry, an essential craft that has contributed to the construction and decoration of temples, shrines, statues, and traditional buildings throughout Nepal.

Visit local artisans and learn how stone is carefully selected, shaped, carved, and finished using traditional techniques. Depending on the workshop and artisan availability, you will have an opportunity to participate in a hands-on stone carving or masonry session.

Continue to Khokana, another historic Newari village known for its preserved traditional lifestyle and architecture. Walking through its narrow lanes and historic settlements provides an authentic glimpse into the living cultural heritage of the Kathmandu Valley.

Overnight: Kathmandu

After breakfast, travel to Bhaktapur, one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the Kathmandu Valley and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Explore Bhaktapur Durbar Square, with its historic temples, palaces, courtyards, traditional architecture, and vibrant artisan culture.

Visit Pottery Square, where generations of potters have practiced their craft using traditional techniques. Watch artisans prepare clay and shape it on the pottery wheel before taking part in your own hands-on pottery session.

With guidance from a local potter, create your own simple clay object or souvenir. Your experience offers an insight into the patience and skill required to transform a lump of clay into a functional or decorative work of art.

In the afternoon, return to Kathmandu and enter the peaceful world of Thangka painting.

Visit a traditional Thangka painting school or studio and meet experienced artists who dedicate years to mastering this sacred Buddhist art form. Learn about the symbolism, proportions, colors, and spiritual significance behind traditional Thangka paintings.

Under the guidance of a master painter, learn basic techniques such as sketching, coloring, and detailing, and create your own beginner-level Thangka artwork to take home.

Overnight: Kathmandu

Enjoy a relaxed final morning in Kathmandu. You may use your free time for shopping, purchasing traditional handicrafts, or revisiting artisan neighborhoods and local markets.

Your collection of handmade souvenirs will provide a lasting reminder of your journey through Nepal’s traditional craft heritage.

At the appropriate time, transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward journey.
